All the pictures are uploaded here so karate people can actually see how sensei demonstrated the techniques. A bit like super-slo-mo film from all ~460 pictures uploaded here.

Don't know about you but I really think that Ubl-sensei can beat Wolverine ... :)

Hoitsugan Tokyo 2004 : Yes, I had the chance to sneak out to the dojo during my business trips in Japan. I was there deploying NTT's HOTSPOT project -- wireless network covering all over Tokyo area, later expanded to Sapporo, Nagoya, Fukuoka, etc. We supposed to sleep day time and deploy the network at night. But hey... that's the time for my training right?

Saw bunch of pictures of "younger" Jon Keeling sensei at the certificates on the wall... I think that's pretty cool.

Everybody seems to be extra friendly knowing that I train at JKASV under Jon Keeling sensei. Good for me, at first I was afraid they would beat me up or something :D

Nishiyama Sensei Seminar 2007 : Nishiyama Sensei Seminar, November 2007

Rest In Peace, Nishiyama-sensei. You will be sorely missed.

For Immediate Release, November 8, 2008 (From http://www.martialinfo.com/Hidetaka-Nishiyama/default.asp)

The International Traditional Karate Federation (ITKF) is in mourning today following the passing of their President and Chairman, Hidetaka Nishiyama at the age of 80. Mr. Nishiyama was a world renowned karate master well known for his steadfast dedication to the preservation and protection of the Martial Art of Traditional Karate.

"He was truly one of a kind", said Acting ITKF Chairman, Rick Jorgensen. "He has greatly influenced and impacted the lives of those who practice Traditional Karate."

In 1960 he published his first book: Karate: The Art of Empty-Hand Fighting. Today, his book still remains one of the foremost authoritative writings on the Martial Art of Traditional Karate.

Hoitsugan Seminar III 2008 -- Wed & Saturday : Photos by Maleeya & Ekapol

March 12-16, 2008
Silicon Valley area of northern California, USA

http://www.hoitsugan.com/hoitsuganseminars3.html

For the third time, over a dozen instructors, all of whom lived and trained in Japan, will come together to teach as a collective unit. This event will involve 15 instructors teaching a total of 47 seminars over a 5-day period. Many of the instructors trained directly with Nakayama Sensei prior to his passing in 1987. Most of these instructors lived in Japan for many years and have gained experiences that may be invaluable to your own training. The Hoitsugan Seminars have set a new standard of excellence for seminars.

-- I keep most of the pictures here on this gallery so we all can go back and see how the techniques were done. Hope you enjoy them. -- Ekapol.--

Friederich_sensei : Rest in Peace Friederich sensei. Thank you for your lessons at Hoitsugan seminar. I was so deeply inspired.

Gary Gerard Friederich, 66 of Reno, Nevada passed away on July 11, 2008 at home surrounded by friends after a brief terminal illness.

(From http://www.usadojo.com/eulogies/gary-friederich.htm)

Friederich Sensei was the first westerner allowed to join the elite JKA Instructors' Training Program in Tokyo. He had also trained at Takushoku, Komazawa, and Toritsu Universities and competed in the 1965 and 1966 JKA All-Japans as the only representative of the USA. Although he may not be a very well-known name in most Shotokan circles, it is worth noting that he was mentioned several times in both CW Nicol's 'Moving Zen' and Stan Schmidt's 'Spirit of the Empty Hand.' Friederich Sensei has been chief instructor for the Nevada Karate Association, for the past 42 years. Please note that assisting with instruction of Friederich Sensei's sessions will be the legendary Shapoff (Bob) Sensei, a very successful competitor in the 1960's-70's.

JKASV Kickathon 2008 : Yes, we did 2009 karate front kicks (maegeri) in less than 2 hours. Donation went to Second Harvest Food Bank organization this year -- www.jkasv.com/dojo/events/kickathon.html

As we have done in 2005, 2006, and 2007, once again the kick-a-thon will benefit important charities. Participants will attempted to perform 2009 karate front kicks in one session. Anyone who has done 100 kicks will agree that over 2,000 is very challenging. As always, those not able to complete all 2009 repetitions will be encouraged to do his or her best -- both to help with fund-raising and to challenge themselves.
